I claim ignorance to NCAA regulations and to Mike Dunham's situation last year and Mike Latendresse's situation, but I think it's practical to say no rules have been broken. If any have been, the NCAA would surely know and have taken action by now. Now, as far as the University of Maine's policies go, we have strict guidelines. Last year more than a dozen baseball players were suspended for a few games after it was discovered they'd participated in an illegal gambling ring. UMaine athletic director Michael Ploszek suspended the players immediately, per NCAA regulations. Our baseball team went on to have its first losing season in more than 20 years. Recently three UMaine football players tested positive for steroid use. All three players have had their scholarships revoked and will no longer play for Maine again. When it comes to rules violations, the athletic department here is very quick to respond because it is very concerned with the image of UMaine athletics. BTW: If a student can pass the exams and write the papers and get everything in, what's the problem with he/she passing? Athletes have also been known for having a light course load during the season and taking classes in the summer. It can be done by anybody.
