The Minnesota Golden Gophers closed out Mariucci Arena in hair-raising
style on Saturday night, beating the North Dakota Fighting Soup 5-4 in
overtime. North Dakota scored at :31 of the first period, and stretched
the lead to 2-0. The Gophers drew within one on a power play goal with 22
seconds left in the first. I think the Gophers were leading 3-2 at the end
of the second, and were ahead 4-3 with about three minutes to go when North
Dakota tied it up. Craig Johnson of the Gophers scored the game-winner
about 5 minutes into the overtime to win the game and the series.
