MICHIGAN TOPS WISCONSIN 3-2 IN O.T. Michigan scored first in the first period on a goal by Oliver, his 34th, on the powerplay. The Badgers tied the game up in the second on a goal by Blaine Moore, who sat out the Friday game with Zent on the suspension from last year's NCAA final game. The Badgers took a 2-1 lead in the third on Williams fifth goal of the season, with about ten to eleven minutes left in the game. At this point, Wisconsin started to think defensive-shell, and like the prevent defense in football, it couldn't defend anything. Michigan scored to tie up the game with nine minutes left in the game. Wisconsin once again took the lead on a long-shot from the point by Tok, his third of the season. Michigan's goalie, Shields, had been having trouble handling long shots. Many went through him but wide. On the Wisconsin side, Carey was having another good playoff game. Michigan tied up the game once again at with four minutes left. Cam Stewart put his 20th goal of the season in. Heading into overtime the game had been so close that it would probably be a matter of which way the puck bounced, and this is indeed what happened. On a rush on the Wisconsin goal, the Wisconsin defenseman played it well and knocked the puck away from Roberts. The luck of it was, for Michigan, that the puck bounced off Roberts back skate across the goal mouth past a now out-of-position Carey and onto Roberts stick. End of game. A closing comment on the game. Sometime during the first part of the second period the ref's whistles were lost. There were very few penalties stoppages, maybe two or three, for the rest of the game for two physical teams playing a very physical game. It wasn't a good game to try and explain some of the subtleties of the rules to some of the hockey newcomers who were with us. McBride was the more dominant of the two refs doing this game. LSSU DEFEATS UM-DULUTH 4-2 I don't have the benefit of a newspaper article in front of me so this will be brief. I was rooting for Duluth so I noticed them more. As a consequence this summary was written from that perspective. The second didn't have quite the intensity of the first game. The referees also were more consistent in the calling of the game. Duluth was the better team as far as passing or executing goes. It was wonderful to watch even their breakouts. Much of their passing is one-touch with quick redirections across ice. The Duluth goalie played a more consistent and outstanding game. He is also a freshman. The problem Duluth had was possibly a lack of depth, especially on defense. This became an issue when playing Friday and Saturday games. LSSU was the more physical and well-rested team. They played a workman-like game. Maybe not as exciting or as noticeable but all of this added up to a win for them. By the end of the second period Duluth was obviously tired and struggling to hold on. They were down 3-1. After the break, they came out much more invigoratedi and put the pressure back on LSSU. Duluth narrowed the margin to one goal about half way through the period. LSSU scored the final goal making a difficult comeback for Duluth even worse. Duluth made it even harder for themselves by taking a penalty with less than two minutes to go. They did not pull their goalie at the close of their game. To their credit, they put more pressure on 4-on-5 than LSSU was able to manage. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Douglas J.
