He's definitely been the go-to guy this year. However, when it comes to the Hobie Baker, I would have rather seen senior Chris Bergeron from Miami instead of Savage. With comparable stats, Bergeron has been the team captain for two years and has been praised by Coach Gwozdecky for his team leadership. Besides, Savage still has another year! :) Derek Plante: Derek is the product of small town hockey, coming from Cloquet, MN. Growing up Derek went to UMD hockey games and did what all the small kids did. He stood by while the players walked in and out of the rink, the players, Tom Kurvers, Brett Hull, Dave Watson, and many more made an impression of kindness and sportsmanship upon the small young player. Since DP was a freshman he has grown 4 inches, filled out and became the type of player for others to follow. He's a leader by example, a role model for the young kids who watch the team file in and out of the arena, and shows modesty in his accomplishments. My vote goes to DP because of what he has given, not only to Duluth hockey, but to the Northland community, a young, modest, determined leader who is as exciting as any Bulldog ever. Comments: Greg Johnson Greg bypassed signing a lucritive contract last year to finish up his college eligibility. He has a 3.4 grade point average and is North Dakotas leading scorer ever. He's been one of the best players in each of the last 3 years, and this year was burdened with a very young supporting cast (ND was 8th in the WCHA) Still he continued to shine in the WCHA. End Comments gathered from mail One thing I noted is that Derek Plante has 18 of 34 goals on the PP, over half of his totals.
