With sincerity, I bring you the 1993 NC$$ wish lists for each of the 12 teams: Northern Michigan: Dallas Drake, Jim Hiller and Scott Beattie because Joe Frederick can only do so much. Harvard: Some magic potion to cure NC$$ jitters, because going into the tourney with two freshman goaltenders isn't easy. (Special 1994 wish: A chance to defend their running regular season ECAC title with a full roster not too heavily depleted by the Olympics.) Boston University: 1) A shot at Harvard to avenge their loss in the Beanpot final or 2) a shot at Northern Michigan to avenge their loss in the 1991 national championship game. One of these wishes will come true. Brown: A wing and a prayer, because my biased western view doesn't see how they can get by Minn-Duluth, which will open up the door for second guessers as to why RPI didn't get in. Basically, a solid effort in Detroit to quiet any critics. Minnesota-Duluth: A HUGE tournament for Derek Plante because they finally have the opportunity to showcase him (and his teammates) at the national level. Also, a large contingent from Ferris State at Detroit because Bulldogs should stick together. Lake Superior: A healthy Brian Rolston, because that's all it may need. Valium for Blaine Lacher, because he's a fine goalie but his temper tantrums may haunt them in the tournament. A solid effort from Michael Smith, because even with his awards he's one of the most underrated defensemen in the nation. A big bell to ring in Milwaukee, in the event that they do defend their title. Wisconsin: Good seats for Jeff Sauer, Blaine Moore and Jason Zent to watch Friday's game. The transfer of Ferris State goaltender Pat Mazzoli to Wisconsin in time to play Friday night, because Mazzoli damn near stopped Miami single-handedly in the CCHA playoffs and I'm sure he'd relish another chance. Miami: The same lack of respect that they've been getting all season, because it may be enough to motivate them through the tourney. Michigan: Michigan need not wish, because they have the potential for their dream path: 1) An opportunity to uneven the season series with Miami, which currently stands at 1-1-1 or an opportunity to avenge last year's debacle against Wisconsin (including shoving a Badger into the bench and holding him there while the game winning goal is scored 5-on-4); 2) the chance to play Maine, which many people have wanted to see for over two years now; and 3) a shot at Lake Superior in the title game to make up for the embarrassment in the CCHAs and keep the title in the state of Michigan for the third straight year. Minnesota: Fans in Worchester for three reasons: 1) I like Minnesota, but I'll be in Detroit; 2) the players deserve it; and 3) they're gonna need the support because Clarkson is on fire. Clarkson: Dave Taylor and NO fire extinguishers (see Minnesota). Maine: The return of Jean-Yves Roy for his senior season, because then they could move up to the Patrick Division. Best wishes to all.
