Game two: Hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey weekend. Bright Hockey Center. Saturday mornings' match was a very good showing for Harvard. The offense got it going, and the defense continued to hang together. There was no scoring in the first two periods. During that time play varied from Harvard having some pressure on in the Cornell zone, to up and down action. I'll have to say I was not pleased with Cornell who did alot of hooking. Generally, women's hockey is a very clean sporting event. Today I saw more infractions from Cornell than I have seen the whole rest of the season. In the third period, Diana Clark (Sara Simmons) opened the scoring on a play right in front of the net. There were several pokes at the puck and Clark finally sent it home. Kim Landry (Holly Leitzes) scored the second goal on a wrist shot, following a lovely centering pass from behind the net. The final goal was also by Landry (Jo-anne Alissi) when she deflected a pass into the upper right hand corner of the net. I thought Hetherington played well on defense for Big Red. She read the game well, and broke up several plays. B. Schmaltz was their most effective forward. She seems the most likely to score. For Harvard, Joey Alissi continues her strong play up the middle. She created for herself and others many scoring chances. Winkie Mleczko had a good game on defense. She stepped up and filled the gaps well. Holly Leitzes continues to improve. She shifted up onto offense several times, one resulting in the second goal. Megan Hall made some nice setups for her linemates. Her name is not on the scoring sheet, but her play provided many chances. The thing that hurts the Harvard team the most is the misuse of players by the coach. Again he went with three defensive players. Fortunately the extra defender got half shifted on the second line. Unfortunately the second line now has two players who could be very good defensive players, if given the chance. This was Harvard's best effort to date. Both lines, the defenders and tender of the twine Erin Villiotte are playing pretty good hockey. Nice going Crimson. _____________ / good shooting rhun _____________/
