Hi hockey folks - Well... the wonderful wacky world of Dartmouth hockey continued on Saturday night when Dartmouth fell to Yale 7-6. Although there were no tennis balls, there were two gorillas who showed up for the game (in the stands - not on the ice) and there was a streaker between the second and third periods. It is amazing how fast the fans can turn around from apathetic to "normal" fans (note- tennis balls, gorillas, and streakers). Attendance is up from around 1100 at the start of the year to about 3400 - definitely a boost for the team. Dartmouth, as it is wont to do this year, spotted their opponent a few goals early in the period. A ppg at 4:09 and another goal at 4:33, gave Yale a 2 goal lead that put Dartmouth in the position of catchup for the rest of the game. Dartmouth answered quickly, however (they woke up) with a goal less than a minute later and tied the game at 9:22 with a power play goal of their own. Yale scored 14:25 the end of the period to make it 3-2 on another ppg. The second period was rather uneventful with both goalies coming up with a few big plays and Yale ending up with a 5-3 lead. The third period was the Scott Fraser show. Yale scored first, at 11:17 to take a 6-3 lead, but from then on Dartmouth put on increasing pressure. Fraser scored his first goal of the period at 13:36 on a pp (this gave each team two ppgs), but les than 30 seconds later Yale came right back on a break in and scored preserving the 3 goal lead for Yale (7-4). Fraser got another goal at 16:12 and a third at 19:42. Dartmouth almost scored again in the last 18 seconds to send the game into OT, but came up short. The game leaves Dartmouth with 6 wins out of its last 8 games and an overall record of 7-9-0. What is interesting, though, is that 6 of the 7 wins were come from behind wins and all the wins were one goal wins. TEN of Dartmouth's 16 games have been one goal games, with an additional 2 or 3 being empty net 2-goal games. Bob Gross
