The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for January 20, 1993: Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first- place votes are in parentheses. On this Inauguration Day, St. Cloud makes its inaugural appearance in the HOCKEY-L poll, cracking the Top 15 for the first time ever. We can also see from the Range column below that at least for this week there's pretty close agreement on who the top eight teams are. Beyond that, there are some pretty wild fluctuations, as there's a pretty sharp dropoff from #8 to #9 (the relatively large number of ten "Other teams receiving votes" also shows some disagreement as to who belongs in the poll after the top eight). If this keeps up, the NC$$ Selec- tion Committee is going to have a tough time with those last four tournament bids... Eastern responses: Western responses: 1. Maine (10) 164 1. Maine (3) 45 2. Remarkably, the _Times-Union_ and WMEB polls agree with HOCKEY-L as to who the top 11 teams are, although there are slight differences in the ordering. Even more amazing, both media polls have given some votes to Alaska-Fairbanks, after ignoring the Nanooks for most of the season. It seems their trip to Michigan State reminded some voters that they exist. Well, WE knew that all along :-) Times- HOCKEY-L Union WMEB Team Record Rank Rank Rank Maine 22-0-2 1 1 1 Harvard 13-1-1 2 2 2 Michigan 16-4-3 3 3 3 Boston University 14-4-2 4 4 4 Minnesota-Duluth 15-6-1 5 5 6 Miami 15-6-3 6 5 5 Lake Superior 13-6-4 7 8 7 Wisconsin 14-7-1 8 7 8 Michigan State 13-8-1 9 9 10 Yale 8-5-2 9 10 9 Alaska-Fairbanks 16-7 11 (11) (11) Minnesota 10-7-5 12 Western Michigan 12-8-1 13 (14) (12) St. Lawrence 10-6-2 14 (14) (13) St. Cloud 11-8-1 15 (11) (13) Tadpoll (polls only): 1. Note that although this week's composite includes the HOCKEY-L rank for comparison purposes, the Tad-rate below still consists only of the three ratings (without the HOCKEY-L poll results).
