Summary:

Dartmouth beat Union Sunday night at Achilles Rink, 2-1. After a
great effort in their 3-2 loss to Harvard on Friday night, the
Dutchmen didn't play very well against the Big Green. Dartmouth
didn't play all that well either. The game was played at a very
noticeable level lower than the Harvard game.

Union took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Scott Boyd early in the
first period. Dartmouth came right back with a power play goal to
tie. Dartmouth scored the winning goal midway though the 2nd period.
It was really a pretty boring game for the most part. It was a bit
more exciting in the 3rd period, as Union tried to tie the game.

Union made a lot of mistakes in the game, and a lot of them led to
scoring chances. Goalie Luigi Villa was not particularly sharp for
Union, but still allowed just 2 goals and stopped 2 Dartmouth
breakaways. The biggest mistake was made when a delayed penalty was
being called on Dartmouth with about 3 1/2 minutes left. Play
contiunued and Villa came off for the extra skater. Freshman Shane
Holunga was called for a cross check to negate the power play before
it could start. There was no reason to do anything that the refs
could find an excuse to call in that situation. Coach Delventhal
chalked this one up as a learning experience for his young team.

Dartmouth improves to 4-6 in the ECAC, 6-8 overall. The win moves
Dartmouth into a 6th place tie with Vermont. Union is now 2-8 in the
ECAC, 2-11 overall. This leaves them 3 points out of playoff position
and in 11th place. Union travels to Cornell and Colgate this weekend.
(I'd love to be there again at Cornell, but the weather forecast
doesn't look good and today's the last day to get tickets...)
