The University of Maine Black Bears scored two consecutive short-
handed goals in the second period en route to a 6-0 shutout over
the Clarkson Golden Knights at Harold Alfond Sports Arena in Oro-
no Saturday night. Maine outshot Clarkson 13-0 in the first per-
iod.

Coming off their worst game of the season - both offensively and
defensively - the Black Bears combined aggressive offense with
aggressive defense. It was slow in coming, Maine started the first
period where they left off Friday night, making errant passes, but
the defense was there and Maine got back on track with four goals
in the second period.

Paul Kariya paced the Black Bears with one goal and two assists.
Jim Montgomery also had a goal and two assists.

The Black Bears are now 32-0-4 in their last 36 regular season
games, and 39-0-4 in their last 43 home games.
