In a game Maine coach Shawn Walsh probably would rather have
played Lake Superior, Patrice Tardif had a hat track and Eric
Fenton had two goals and two assists to lead Maine to a 12-4 win
over Brown in the championship game of the Dexter Hockey Classic,
at Harold Alfond Sports Arena on the University of Maine campus in
Orono.
The Dexter championship is the fourth tournament Maine has won
this year.
Tardif scored the game's first goal 1:01 into the first
period. Brown's Jones answered 12 seconds later when he shot the
puck into an empty net after Maine goalie Garth Snow fell down
after a scuffle in front of the goal.
Jim Montgomery put Maine up for good with a goal less than two
minutes later. Montgomery was named MVP of the tournament after the
game.
When Dave LaCouture scored a little over a minute later, Brown
coach Bob Gaudet replaced his starting goalie with Parsons.

NOTES: Cal Ingraham scored his 25th goal of the season 9:36 into
the second period ... Mike Latendresse scored yet another short-
handed goal for Maine this season. Maine is something like one away
from tying a team record for most short-handed goals in a season
... At last count Maine had outshot Brown 36-19 ... Looking through
Maine's media guide, one has to wonder. Miami is listed as playing
Maine Jan. 2, which they did. Lake Superior is listed for Jan. 3.
But the Brown listing is real specific: "January 3, at Alfond
Arena, 7:00 p.m." Hmmmmmm..... ... Black Bears radio play-by-play
man, Joe Carr, reported Maine will disband for a week before
preparing to take on Clarkson, at home, Jan. 15 and 16.
