Wisconsin could have won on Friday night with a little more consistent effort from the blueline and the goaltending. Jim Carey was really hot last weekend against North Dakota but on Friday night he looked quite average. The overtime goal was an errant shot that appeared to hit Carey's body as went down to cover the near post. The puck was redirected into the net. Denver really worked hard for the victory. On Saturday, Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead and controlled the play well. Two late power play goals by Denver made the game look closer than it really was. Wisconsin outshot the opponents (shots on goal) for only the 5th time this year. Two big weekend series are coming up: @ St Cloud this week and Minn-Duluth @ home the weekend after. ---mg ###################################################################### Friday, Jan 22, 1993 Denver------------- 2 1 1 1 - 5 Wisconsin---------- 2 1 1 0 - 4 First Period 0-1 10:52 Konowalchuk 9 (Naylor, Kenady) 0-2 11:15 Ortiz 1 (O'Leary, McLean) 1-2 12:49 Elick 1 2-2 17:46 Fairchild 16 (Katlaps, Shier) (pp) Second Period 3-2 7:00 Plante 12 (Spencer, Fairchild) 3-3 14:45 Kenady 7 (Schoen) (sh) Third Period 3-4 8:09 O'Leary 4-4 15:29 Zent 13 (Moore, Shier) Overtime 4-5 :47 Elders 15 (Smith, Ricci) Saves Schoen (Den) ---------------- 9 3 10 0 - 22 Carey (Wis) ----------------- 9 18 4 0 - 31 Penalties Den 8 2-min Wis 8 2-min Power Plays Den 0 for 5 Wis 1 for 5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday, Jan 23, 1993 Denver------------- 0 0 2 - 2 Wisconsin---------- 2 1 1 - 4 First Period 1-0 :26 Fairchild 17 2-0 13:31 Plante 13 (Richter, Rafalski) Second Period 3-0 9:26 Zent 14 (Shier, Moore) Third Period 4-0 :26 Fairchild 18 (Spencer) 4-1 7:32 Luger 2 (McMillan, Konowalchuk) (pp) 4-2 16:12 DeCorby 2 (MacArthur) (pp) Saves Schoen (Den) ---------------- 7 5 13 - 25 Carey (Wis) ----------------- 9 8 6 - 23 Penalties Den 13 2-min & 1 10-min misconduct Wis 15 2-min & 1 10-min misconduct Power Plays Den 2 for 8 Wis 0 for 5
