Some great man-to-man defensive play and terrific goal-tending by the Boson College Eagles kept the Black Bear offensive machine to only a 4-1 victory after Friday nights 8-1 near-shuttout (except for Ian Moran's goal at 19:57). Ian Moran, coincidentally, had the only goal for BC in today's game. Moran's goal came 1:23 into the second period during a 5-3 Power-play for Boston College. This goal tied the game at 1-1 after Paul Kariya's blast to the empty net from a beutiful pass from Jim Montgomery and Cal Ingraham. However,it was all Black Bears from there. Chris Ferraro got a birthday present in the form of a rebound from Paul Kariya on a great up-ice pass from Garth Snow. Ferraro's goal proved to be the game winner. Eric Fenton and Lee Saunders added two insurance goals in the third to seal up the victory. Maine goes to 24-0-2 (11-0-1 in HE), and more importantly, takes a 4 point lead over #2, Boston University. Maine stays on the road next weekend and faces a very capable (#3 in HE) UNH squad on UNH's home ice. Maine beat UNH earlier this season, in non-conferernce play, at the Cumberland County Civic Center buy a scant 4-3 margin.
