The St. Cloud State Huskies finished a weekend sweep of the Northern Michigan Wildcats with a 2-1 victory on home ice. Defense was evidently the name of the game; both teams had 8 power plays but failed to score on any of them. The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first. NMU's Steve Carpenter got his first goal of the season in the third period, but it ended at 2-1. Rick Comley, Wildcat head coach, was quoted as saying "We didn't play well the first two periods. We need to learn how to compete every night out. It was a chaotic game, with a lot of power plays. Our defense as a whole played better, and (goalie Corwin) Saurdiff kept us in the game at times. He had a good game. The eight power plays killed by the Wildcats extended their streak to 26 straight over the past four games. Scoring First period 1. SCS, Kelly Hultgren (2) (Knipscheer), 10:24 2. SCS, Dan Reimann (2) (Moser, Hagen), 12:39 Second period none Third period 3.
