Today's St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that a proposal by Mankato State University to upgrade its hockey program to Division I was rejected by the Minnesota State University Board. Edward McMahon, vice chancellor for finance, recommended rejecting the bid because of financial concerns...the lack of a written agreement outlining financial support over the first five years, and the fact that the hockey budget would depend heavily on gate receipts and gifts. Mankato State officials said they haven't yet determined the next step for the school's hockey program. -Dean
