A small point: most of the medals in track & field are being won by
professionals.  Not just because of indorsement money, but prize money
(and for the big names appearance money just to show up) for many
meets.
 
One of the US womans team members, i don't
remember which, used the phrase "to protect my valuable running
career" during an interview.
 
Allowing pros was an attempt to make a "level playing field" for
western atheletes.  It probably has done that, but that does not
mean it was the right thing to do.
 
 
p.s. anybody know why Dave Johnson was wearing those dopey sunglasses
