The Big Red has already been hard hit by the graduation bug, as they will lose nine players from this year's team -- and now it appears that a tenth player will be leaving as well. Sophomore defenseman Todd Chambers had some academic difficulties last year and apparently will be withdrawing from Cornell. My understanding is that the university is not suspending him, but rather that he is making the decision to leave on his own. This may turn out to be a big loss for Cornell. Last season was Chambers' first with the varsity squad, and he developed into a pretty good defense- man, playing alongside team tri-captain Dave Burke on Cornell's top line. Chambers was also a force on the special teams and was even a scoring threat, which is something the Big Red sorely needs. He was the leading scorer among defensemen last season, and while his 4-13-17 numbers don't look like anything to brag about, the three returning defensemen (Etienne Belzile, Blair Ettles, and Christian Felli) combined for *five* points last season. Chambers' departure also means that the Big Red's defense will be that much more inexperienced next season. Belzile will be a senior, but both Ettles and Felli will be sophomores -- and thanks to a broken ankle, Ettles saw action in only nine games last season. The Lynah Faithful can expect Parris Duffus, and probably Andy Bandurski also, to face a lot of rubber next season. -- Bill Fenwick Cornell '86 and probably '94 LET'S GO RED!!
