This is really not too close to hockey, but it is the off season so... I'm as against quotas and stuff like that as anybody, but.... My daughter is a golfer. When she had new student night at the high school she would be going to (this is almost 2 years ago) she asked about a girl's golf team. She was told that there wasn't any interest shown, but if she could get a team together, they would have a team. As a 9th grader, on the 2nd day of school, she had 7 girls and a coach all lined up. The school's story then changed to they would establish a team if every high school in the district had enough girls to play. I really wanted to pursue it with the state high school activities association, but demurred to my daughter who asked me not to gain her a reputation as a troublemaker by pressing for her rights. The point is that without rules forcing schools to do the right thing (here the right thing is to provide appropriate women's sports) the right thing won't get done. Unfortunately, we don't always do a good job of writing the rules, so things end up sounding worse than they were intended. Now that i think about it, most hockey players are playing golf now, so a posting related to golf isn't all that inappropriate (-: charlie shub [log in to unmask] -or- (719) 593-3492 or even cdash@colospgs (BITNET) if the above address won't work
