Just some miscellaneous ramblings from the great white north...

From today's St. Lawrence Plaindealer (Canton, NY):

   ALLAIN OKAY - ...
St. Lawrence University Sports Information Director Wally Johnson
said sophomore Mike Allain suffered only a stinger - a whiplash
type injury to the neck - after he took a heavy hit into the boards
   from Cornell's Shaun Hannah.

"He was back at the hotel minutes after the team was. He'll be ready
for the NCAAs. It looked a lot worse than it really was because of
the precautions they took," Johnson noted.

From the not as fortunate department in today's
Watertown Daily Times:

An extensive article today about North Country native Mike McNamara,
the 21-year old Elmira College sophomore from Potsdam, NY seriously
injured this past weekend:

McNamara was an honorable mention All-North pick after his senior
year for Potsdam in 1989. A tri-captain that year, he tallied
23 goals with 31 assists for 54 points.
   ...
It's been a difficult season for McNamara, who had a hernia operation
before the season and, in his first game on Nov. 16, suffered a
separated shoulder that left him sidelined until Jan. 6 He played in
16 games and still managed eight goals and 4 assists for 12 points.

"He's just a hard-working kid who never questioned anything,"
Thomaris (Elmira head coach) said. "He's just a super kid. If
you could have 20 Mike McNamaras on your team, I think anybody
   would want that."

Here's an interesting question for the historians out there -

Anybody remember a team winning two games on the same
day, as St. Lawrence did this past Saturday winning
at 12:14 am and again at about 7:30 pm ??

I'd be interested to hear the circumstances leading up
to such an occurrence, if its happened before.
