The box is short, so I'll type it in for you. Friday 2/14/92 at Bowling Green Ice Arena MICHIGAN STATE (16-7-6; 14-5-5 CCHA) 0 1 0 0 1 BOWLING GREEN (8-15-4; 7-14-4 CCHA) 1 0 0 1 2 FIRST 1-BG Martin Jiranek (22) (Wells, Harkins) PP 16:25 SECOND 1-MS Peter White (18) (Suk, Smolinski) PP 17:14 THIRD None OVERTIME 2-BG Jim Solly (9) (Harkins, de Vries) 4:06 SAVES: MSU Mike Gilmore 10- 5- 9- 3=27 (64:06) BG Will Clarke 9-10- 4- 1=24 (64:03) POWER PLAYS: MSU 1/4; BG 1/7 THREE STARS: 1.Clarke 2.Gilmore 3.Solly Great defense and great goaltending. I thought Gilmore played better than Clarke because the MSU defense gave up more close-in shots than the BG defense did. Each tender made at least 3 saves "that they shouldn't have made." The first was pretty even. MSU controlled the second and got their expected 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 breaks on goal but could only muster the one PPG. BG dominated the third, allowing only 4 shots on net, with all 4 coming from beyond the face-off dot. With the face-off in the MSU end and 3 second left in regulation, the Falcons pulled their goalie but nothing happened. Referee Matt Shegos continued to swallow his whistle in OT, where I thought at least 3 penalties could have been called. Clarke's only save in OT was a sliding stop of Peter White's edge-of-the-crease shot. The winning goal came when Greg de Vries held in the puck at the blue line and sent it deep. The puck took a funny bounce off the boards, hit the side of the net and went right to Brett Harkins, who fed Jim Solly. Jim was solidly in the crease, but Gilmore was so far back in the net, he was not even touching the goalie. Jim tucked in the puck before any MSU player could figure out what happened. With this break, BG is now about 1 and 10 on lucky bounces this season. Re-match at Munn at 7 pm tonight. Should be another close game...
