Team USA beat Team Italy 6-3 on Sunday night (France Time). Team USA scored first, with two goals in the first period. At this point, it looked like the US would run away with the game but as the first period came to an end, Italy came back to score a goal. During the second period, the US looked flat. Italy scored once at the beginning of the period and once again at the end to make the score 3-2. Team USA woke up in the third period to score four goals and stifle the Italian offense. Half way through the third period Italy had NO shots on goal. Interesting Facts: Emma did not play due to sore ribs. He is being rested for the rest of the tournament. Team USA ran 4 lines through most of the game. The announcers said that this was to keep the players fresh since they were playing at 4,900 feet. At the beginning of the third period, the US ran 3 lines. They returned to 4 lines after the third goal of the period. In order to play on the Italian team you need to have Italian ancestry by blood or marraige, have an Italian passport (which seems to be different than Italian citizenship), and have played in the Italian league for 3 years. This explains why the Italian team was made up of 14 Canadians, 1 American, and only 7 natural born Italians. The ref called a fairly tight game but made some penalty calls on good plays. This especially hurt the US when (Donetelli ?) knocked away the puck to foil a break away. He was called for hooking. I apologize if someone posted this before me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Maiwald maiwald at dockmaster.ncsc.mil RPI '87 Go, Go, Go, You, Red, Red, Red!!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------
