I called the Ann Arbor News to ask about the Manson quote. The News library is an archaic, low-tech clip 'n' save kind of thing, and they clip only stories and columns by their own writers; this does not include stories from The Ann Arbor News Bureau (I don't understand this, I just accept it). The person who checked was not able to find anything with the Manson line in it. She then also checked with the Sports editor. He said that he didn't think that the News had ever written the line. Since Michigan Hockey writers come and go frequently at the Ann Arbor News, it wasn't possible to simply check with the hockey writer, because the current writer wasn't around yet when this came out. Therefore, I will not be able to post the column for all to see, and I will not be able to prove that I did see it, so, please, don't anybody sue me for libelling Coach York. :-) Oh, and when I told the woman at the New library that I was looking for a reference to Ted Kramer as the Charles Manson of the CCHA, she said, "Yuck." I guess you have to be a hockey fan to appreciate it. Paul Grochowski Univ. o' Michigan GO BLUE
