Clarkson, Dubinsky (Mueller) 1:26 (shg) Clarkson actually came out and took the play to Harvard at the start of the game. The aggressive Clarkson play yielded them a power play at :26. However, Clarkson wasn't able to make anything happen. Once Harvard got back to full strength, they turned the game around and went after Clarkson. During Harvard's first pp, Konik from Minnesota scored on a quick shot that zipped in just inside of the right post. Less than two minutes later, Fotheringham of Clarkson coughed up the puck in his own zone to Gardner of Harvard. Roggles stopped the initial shot, but Martins put the rebound in for Harvard. Clarkson had trouble clearing their zone and getting any good scoring plays. Harvard kept their game going and controlled play in the second period. Clarkson was struggling to get any offensive pressure. Harvard scored on their third pp chance when a shot by Coughlin came off of the back boards on to Martins' stick. Martins just flick the puck up high and over Roggles' shoulder. Clarkson finally scored on a two on one rush by Thomas and Conroy. Thomas carried the puck in and passed it across the goal mouth to Conroy. Conroy couldn't get a shot off, but did get the puck back to Thomas who put it into the empty net. Clarkson kept the pressure on and was able to draw a penalty. The face off was won by Clarkson in the Harvard zone. Clarkson had a couple of good scoring chances before Harvard cleared the zone. Clarkson could never get back in during the last minute of the pp. However, during another pp, Clarkson was able to score when a pass meant for Tuomainen at the side of the net from Belanger was knocked into the Harvard goal by Coughlin trying to break up the pass. Harvard scored soon after to go back to a two goal lead and end Roggles' game. Flomenhoft scored on a soft wrist shot that should have been a routine save for Roggles. Currie came in and went straight to work, stopping several good Harvard shots. Clarkson scored their third goal on a nice three way passing play. Thomas fed a pass from the blue line to Dubinsky. Dubinsky and Conroy went into the Harvard zone two on one. This time, Conroy ripped his one time shot past Hughes when Dubinsky gave him the puck. Clarkson was killing another pp early in the third period when Mueller intercepted a cross ice pass in the neutral zone. He went around the Harvard defenseman by banging the puck off of the boards. He had Dubinsky on his right and passed it to him. Dubinsky tied the game up on a nice shot that Hughes had no chance on. Harvard did come right back with some offensive pressure and hit the post on their next shot. Currie was able to stop Harvard when they threatened. The shot count of two is not that indicative of how Clarkson played. They had the puck in the Harvard zone. But the Harvard defensemen kept them along the boards and out of the slot area. Clarkson did send some shots in which went wide. Ed Sabo of Clarkson took a penalty with :55 left in the game, but Clarkson's defense kept Harvard from passing the blue line. There was a lot of play in the neutral zone during the third period as neither team could really penetrate. The OT was fast and furious. Each goalie had to make several saves to keep thier team going. It's hard to say what kind of a game it was from listening to the radio, but Clarkson was able to battle back against a strong Harvard team that has several (Martins and Konik) good scoring freshmen. For a second night in a row, Clarkson was let down by some weak goal tending. In previous games, except Ohio State, the goalies have kept Clarkson in the game when the team was flat. The goal tending will have to come back up to their usual greatness with all of the road games coming up. Clarkson plays the number one ranked Div. III Plattsburgh State next Monday before playing St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena in Canton. Mike Zak Clarkson
