MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Mark Beaufait scored his second hat trick of the season and Northern Michigan registered four power-play goals en route to a 8-4 win over St. Cloud State Friday night at Lakeview Arena. Wildcat goalie Corwin Saurdiff made 33 saves in the win, which moved NMU to 9-4-2 overall and 8-3-2 in the WCHA, good for sole possession of first place, though Minnesota has games in hand. St. Cloud, which was led by Sandy Gasseau's two goals, fell to 3-6 overall and 3-6 in the WCHA. The Northern Michigan line of Beattie-Drake-Hiller was stunted somewhat, with Beattie scoring once and Drake and Hiller each adding two assists. Beattie and Hiller are now tied for the nation's scoring lead in overall points with 41 apiece. Justin Doherty, Northern Michigan
