F Plover, WI 5-11 190 35 Jeff Althaus Jr. G St. Cloud, MN 6-1 176 Ulvis Katlaps, a defenseman from Latvia is not yet on the roster. His case we put to the Big Ten eligibility committee this week, which has made several rulings on his situation, but defered the remainder to the NCAA. The Big Ten ruled that he was not a transfer student, but an incomming student. Wisconsin is asking for a waiver from the NCAA, since Katlaps didn't take either the SAT or the ACT test. Reportedly the NCAA granted a waiver to Michigan for Anton Fiederov, a native of Lenigrad who will be a freshman this year. Katlaps was delayed in starting school due to the Soviet coup. If the NCAA grants the waiver, his eligibility will still need to ruled on by the WCHA. Another freshman, Maco Balkovec, is not eligible either, pending completion of paperwork by the Big Ten. His case is considered a formality and no details were released. Barry Richter moved from forward to defense, to help out in Wisconsin's weakest area. The Badgers open the season tonight and tommorrow at Michigan Tech. -------- david parter [log in to unmask] university of wisconsin -- madison computer sciences department
