With the resignation of second year head coach Don McKenney late last month, NU athletic director Irwin Cohen has been busy seaching for McKenney's successor. Early speculation was that RPI coach Buddy Powers and Merrimack College coach Ron Anderson would be interested, but both have recently accepted contract extensions. At this point only current assistant coach Jim Madigan and Bowdoin coach Terry Meagher have been interviewed by Cohen. Cohen has also talked to several coaches via phone. Boston College assistant coaches Steve Cedorchuk and Joe Mallen have been mentioned, although one of these two is expected to take Len Ceglarski's place when he retires after next season. Another name that has surfaced around campus the last few weeks has been former RPI and Holy Cross coach Mike Addesa. Of the two candidates already interviewed, Jim Madigan seems the better bet. Meager has an almost non-pressure position at Bowdoin and his wife has a high-paying position with L.L. Bean, a clothing manufacturer, which she would find difficult to leave. Cohen serves on the NCAA Executive Committee, and has been away from campus for a couple for a couple of weeks. I suspect he will be focusing more attention to the vacated hockey position in the weeks to come. Stay tuned. - kap
