This seemed like a good time to do this with all the talk about long games. From several sources, I have compiled the following listing of the 16 longest games involving at least one Division I team. Only one game had less than two - #8 between Bowling Green and the University of Toronto. The cutoff point was the 80:00 mark, or games that went into at least a third ten-minute overtime. See the notes following for my listing of discrepancies between sources, as well as the sources I used. Please email with any other information you may have, especially games that aren't included here. Divisions II and III haven't tended to maintain statistics as a whole as religiously as Division I, so while I'm sure there are some games that would fit in an overall listing, I decided to limit this to DivI. But I would still like to hear about those games. NMU-BU is only #12. - mike ----------------------------------cut here----------------------------------- DIVISION I COLLEGE HOCKEY'S LONGEST GAMES 1. 102:09 12/21/68 North Dakota 5, Minnesota 4 (5 OT) -22 Minnesota Holiday Classic Metropolitan Center (Bloomington, MN) GWG: Rod Christiansen, North Dakota 2. 99:28 12/30/87 Clarkson 7, Colgate 6 (4 OT) -31 Syracuse Invitational Tournament Onondaga War Memorial Auditorium (Syracuse, NY) GWG: Mike Morrison, Clarkson 3. 97:11 3/24/84 Bowling Green 5, Minnesota-Duluth 4 (4 OT) NCAA Championship Game 1980 Olympic Arena (Lake Placid, NY) GWG: Gino Cavallini, Bowling Green 4. 92:10 3/4/88 Bowling Green 5, Ferris State 4 (4 OT) CCHA Quarterfinal (first game) BGSU Ice Arena (Bowling Green, OH) GWG: Matt Ruchty, Bowling Green 5. 91:23 3/3/79 Ohio State 5, Northern Michigan 4 (4 OT) CCHA Semifinal OSU Ice Rink (Columbus, OH) GWG: Steve Amoruso, Ohio State 6. 86:33 3/14/76 Minnesota 7, Michigan State 6 (3 OT) WCHA Second Round (second game of 2-game total goals) Munn Ice Arena (East Lansing, MI) GWG: Pat Phippen, Minnesota 7. 85:45 3/29/85 RPI 6, Minnesota-Duluth 5 (3 OT) NCAA Semifinal Joe Louis Arena (Detroit, MI) GWG: John Carter, RPI (PPG) 8. 83:15 12/29/85 Toronto 5, Bowling Green 4 (3 OT) Key Bank Classic Championship 1980 Olympic Arena (Lake Placid, NY) GWG: Glen Murphy, Toronto 9. 83:02 11/3/90 Providence 6, RPI 5 (3 OT) USAir Tournament Championship Schneider Arena (Providence, RI) GWG: Lyle Wildgoose, Providence 10. 82:54 3/5/89 Bowling Green 3, Michigan 2 (3 OT) CCHA Quarterfinal (third game) Yost Ice Arena (Ann Arbor, MI) GWG: Rob Blake, Bowling Green 11. 82:28 12/29/79 Michigan Tech 5, Michigan 4 (3 OT) Great Lakes Invitational Joe Louis Arena (Detroit, MI) GWG: Mel Pearson, Michigan Tech 12. 81:57 3/30/91 Northern Michigan 8, Boston University 7 (3 OT) NCAA Championship Game St Paul Civic Center (St Paul, MN) GWG: Darryl Plandowski, Northern Michigan 13. 81:26 3/5/83 Wisconsin 6, North Dakota 5 (3 OT) WCHA Semifinal (second game of 2-game total goals) Winter Sports Arena (Grand Forks, ND) GWG: Paul Houck, Wisconsin (SHG) 14. 81:25 12/30/89 Providence 2, New Hampshire 1 (3 OT) Yoken's Comfort Inn Classic Championship Snively Arena (Durham, NH) GWG: Mario Aube 15. 80:58 3/7/86 Western Michigan 4, Bowling Green 3 (3 OT) CCHA Semifinal Joe Louis Arena (Detroit, MI) GWG: Chris MacDonald, Western Michigan 16. 80:33 3/28/85 Providence 4, Boston College 3 (3 OT) NCAA Semifinal Joe Louis Arena (Detroit, MI) GWG: Artie Yeomalakis, Providence *NOTES* Sources: CCHAG = 1990-91 CCHA Record Book CHRM = 1989-90 Division I College Hockey Record Manual 1989 Bowling Green Postseason Media Information 1990-91 University of New Hampshire Media Guide 1990-91 Providence College Media Guide 1990-91 Providence College Media Information 1.
