Quoted from the Minnesota Daily, 26 March 1991: "NMU coach and athletic director Rick Comley said he is almost certain that the WCHA will vote to go to an eight-team, single elimination tournament next year for the playoffs. The event would be similar to the [Minnesota] state high school hoceky tournament, with a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday format. "The change is necessary because the NCAA has limited the number of games that teams are allowed to play and the season has been cut to 23 weeks. The event will be held in either the St. Paul Civic Center or Milwaukee's Bradley Center." From the same article: "Minnesota will likely play only four non-conference games next season. They will play Michigan twice at Mariucci Arena and will host the Capital City Classic at the Civic Center. Boston College, Providence, and Bowling Green are scheduled to compete." **************************************************************************** Erik Biever --GOLDEN GOPHER MMMMM MMMMM St. Paul, Minnesota - Home of the --HOCKEY MM MM MM MM 1991 WCHA & NCAA Championships --Fastest Game MM MMMM MM BITNET: e-biev@uminn1 --In Town MM MMMMMM MM INTERNET: [log in to unmask] MMMMM MMMMM
