USAFA 1 1 1 3 CC 2 1 1 4 Both teams skated poorly, but USAFA had the better of the play well outshooting CC. CC opened up a two goal lead and cut it to 2-1 on a breakaway at the end of the first. CC's 1st goal was a fluke on a crazy bounce past the USAFA goaltender, and their second was short handed on a breakaway. The other goals were all (as i recall) power plays, two of them coming (one for each team) within 10 seconds of the start of a 4 on 3 advantage. In both the second and third periods, CC opened up a 2 goal lead and USAFA cut it to 1. Agressive forechecking in the last two minutes kept the puck in the USAFA end and they were unable to pull their goalie for the last minute or so. This may have been compounded by USAFA going with just the first two lines for most of the final period. I felt the third line (christie, rowe, and haataya) played well and had several good opportunities during the first two periods. Zawatski scored the final 2 CC tallies, and his line scored the first 2. The (in my opinion) horrible officiating by mark rudolph was exceeded only by the poor officiating of the linesmen. several incidents come to mind 1. an end to end rush with a broken stick and no call 2. dumping the puck out of the arena (yes, out of the arena, OVER the last row) on a shorthanded situation when the goalie had lost his stick and no call. 3. a pass out to the point is missed by the defenseman and goes the length of the ice and is called icing (3 times) 4. A mugs B and both are sent off. 5. wild inconsistency. This is the guy who called a minor, and the league later suspended the player for 2 games for intent to injure. Maybe the WCHA should look at the films of this game too. charlie shub [log in to unmask] -or- ..!{ucar|nbires}!boulder!cdash or even cdash@colospgs (BITNET) -or- (719) 593-3492
