Although AIC scored just 2:52 into the game, White kept his poise and went on to stop 23 shots, including 18 in the third period. Union came back tie on junior Craig Ferrero's goal, extending his scoring streak to 17 games. He added three assists for his third career 4-point night. 44 seconds later, Rick Burchill took a centering pass from Steve Battison to give the Dutchmen a lead they would never give up. Jayson Flowers scored 27 seconds into the 2nd period to increase the lead to 3-1. Although the Dutchmen outplayed the Yellowjackets for most of the period, the only other score came as AIC's Ken Maffia lifted a shot over White's shoulder at 13:50. Union came out strong in the third, scoring twice before the 2:00 mark on goals by freshman Jeff Jiampetti and junior Dalton Menhall. AIC went on the power play at 4:16, but couldn't get anything going. Junior Bill Sedergren's hard shot from the point went in with Union a man down at 4:51 extending the Union lead to 6-2. AIC scored at 7:08, and went on a full 2-minute 5 on 3 advantage as Union's Rich Burchill and Steve Battison went off at 10:39. The Dutchmen sucessfully killed off a good part of the penalties, but Ken Maffia scored his second goal of the night at 12:07. Shayne White kept the lead at 2 goals, stopping some tough shots, and Dalton Menhall finished the scoring with 2 seconds left when he hit the empty net. The Dutchmen improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fall to 7-3 in the ECAC East and 7-4 overall. Union will finish out the first half of the season on the road at UMass-Boston on Saturday night. Following the break, the Dutchmen will face RPI on December 28 in the opening round of the RPI Invitational Tournament.
