A much more exciting game to watch than Friday nite's game. It was good clean hockey for most of the first two periods. Ricci seemed to make some pretty peculiar calls at times like confusing charging with interference and missing a very blatant butt-ending call at the end of the third period, generally he did an ok job on this one with two teams who were set to go off at any given moment. Unfortunately that moment DID come at the end of the third period which was precipitated by Chris McAlpine who cross-checked a UND player in front of the benches and started the rough stuff. Jason Miller was butt-ended while on the MN bench by a UND player on the ice, even the UND back-up goalie appeared ready to get involved in the action. There was much pushing and shoving between the players at the ends of both benches which are only separated by the stick-carts. Gino was having no luck at controlling his players to stop the altercation. On the ice, there was much pushing and shoving going on also. In the end the two captains faced off and were both tossed with fighting-majors. There was alot the Ref missed. There were numerous Cross-checks and elbows all through the game and my guess is the Gophers had had enough and UND went back to their Friday night style. One interesting note was that the UND FANS really did their team in by throwing so much debris onto the ice after UND tied the game with two quick goals in the third period, that it took about 5-8 minutes to clear the ice that UND lost it's momentum and gave Minnesota a "free" time-out so to speak. The Gophers came right back to score two quick goals and silence the raucous UND crowd. UND never regained their composure and the Gophers scored another goal less than two minutes later and sealed the win even though a little less than half the third period remained. I believe Gino Gasparini was quite vexed at the UND fans because he was quoted in the Trib as saying: "Our fans dumped all that stuff on the ice after we scored and it delayed the game 15 minutes and killed our momentum". It was not 15 minutes, but must have seemed like it to Gino!! Woog's comment was: "Our best play of the game was the 75th cup their fans threw on the ice."Maybe, just MAYBE the UND fans will remember this the next time we play up there and change their minds about dumping stuff on the ice. UND could have won the game if it hadn't been for their fans, this was real justice for the Gophers who have had to endure showers of poor dead little prairie dogs for far too many years. Carol White U of M GO Gophers!!!
