Clarkson and St. Lawrence hosted Northeastern and Lowell over the weekend. The two North Country teams were in Boston last year. This year both home teams won both games by sizable margins. Friday: Clarkson 9 - Northeastern 5 Phil Comtois started in goal for Clarkson this night while Cole played for NE. Clarkson is trying figure out who there #1 goalie will be. With frequent penalties being called by Ref. Murphy, the first period ended 2-1 in Clarkson's favor. Clarkson had scored the first two goals. In a different fashion, the second period was penalty-less. Clarkson jumped out with 4 quick goals in the first five to six minutes of the period. Not knowing what to do now, they let NE score and the period ended 6-4 Clarkson. The penalty calling scheme changed again in the third period with a few more being called. The first period had been called real tight, there weren't any need for calls in the second, while the third needed to be kept under control. In the third period, Clarkson went onto to score 3 more goals to NE's 1. Hugo Belanger scored twice as did Dave Tretowicz who had the first two. SLU 5(or 6) - Lowell 2 Lowell was up 2 - 0 into the second period when SLU came out with 5 straight goals including a short-handed one. SLU played two goalies, none being the expected starters Mudd or Kuntar. Saturday: Clarkson 9 - Lowell 4 Shoot that puck, score that goal. Clarkson can do just that, especially 4 at a time. Yet again Clarkson came out in the first period with 4 goals in quick succession, the last two being separated by a minute or so. Jason Currie was in goal for Clarkson this night. Clarkson again let a four goal lead slip down to two before scoring more. It seems that they score a bunch all at once and then don't know what to do. They don't try to go into a defensive shell but just don't generate too much offense. Dave Trombley, Jr. forward, scored his 100th point, while Soph. Hugo Belanger went over 50 with a hat trick and two assists. The Soph. forwards for Clarkson, Mike Kozak, Belanger, Scott Thomas and others are doing incredibly well. They've scored most of Clarkson's 28 goals (I can't beleive that one) in the three games so far. SLU 6(but I heard 9 somewhere) - NE 2 SLU led this one from the start this time. I heard that one of the goalies for NE had to be taken off the ice with a hurt neck. Sorry for the sketchy details on the SLU games. I watch the Clarkson ones and rely on the papers and hearsay for the SLU details. Yes Colgate beat BU. They came from pretty far behind to do it too. BU had beated UVM the night before. Cornell beat Concordia on Friday as well as Waterloo. Sorry, I can't edit this thing but it was RPI who beat Concordia. The scores of these games so far have been pretty high so far. Any team w without a scoring punch is going to be in big trouble. If Cornell's defense can hold the other teams at bay and the offense can score a goal or two, they'll be hard to beat. However, it's going to be tough. Well the real season starts this weekend. A big game to watch will be Clarkson at RPI. If RPI's defense hasn't strengthened over last year there will be a lot of goals scored. Their offense will have to try and keep pace.
