In a game played Tuesday November 12, 1990 at the Merrimack College campus, the
Merrimack Warriors stunned the University of New Hampshire Wildcats 3-2 in
 front
of a crowd of 1158.

The first period was scoreless, with only one penalty being called. That went
to Merrimack's Claude Maillet for holding at 17:50. It may have been because
NESN(New England Sports Network) broadcast the game live, and penalties would
have delayed the game, but it was a clean first period. Merrimack outplayed
the Wildcats in the first period, outshooting them 11 to 6.

Merrimack finally opened the scoring, 4:37 into the second period. Teal Fowler
picked up the rebound of a Matt Hentges blast that broke through goalie Pat
Morrison(28 saves on 31 shots). Fowler knocked the puck into the empty net for
a one nothing Warrior lead. The second assist went to John Barron.

The lead didn't last long, as the Warriors went to sleep. Exactly 28 seconds
later, Domenic Amodeo got a pass behind the Warrior defense. He and Scott
 Morrow
were standing right at the crease. Amodeo put the puck over Yannick Gosselin
(35 saves) for a 1-1 tie.

The game remained tied for the next 10 minutes, with UNH coming close on
severaloccasions. At 15:56, Howie Rosenblatt took a pass from Agostino Casale
 out in
the slot. Rosenblatt fired a beautiful wrist shot over Morrison's right
shoulder and into the top corner for a 2-1 Warrior lead. The other assist went
 to
Sean Dooley.

The game winner wasn't scored until 8:13 was gone in the third. Teal Fowler
won a face off in the UNH end. The puck went to Jeff Massey. Massey dumped it
back to Sean Dooley at the point while Fowler broke for the front of the net.
Dooley fired a shot in, it was tipped by Fowler and went past Morrison. It was
a power play goal, as Bruce MacDonald was in the penalty box for interference.

The Wildcats made it interesting with 2:52 left. I missed the announcment, but
according to "The Boston Herald" it was Greg Klym from Scott Morrow and Save
(ah check that, that's Savo) Mitrovic.

UNH pressured, but Yannick Gosselin came up big.

Scoring:

UNH 0 1 1 - 2
Merrimack	0 2 1 - 3

Shots on goal:

UNH 6 14 17 - 37
Merrimack 11 14 6 - 31

Saves:

Morrison (UNH) 11 12 5 - 28
Gosselin (MC) 6 13 16 - 35

I know I've been singing the praises of Rob Atkinson and Dan Gravelle all year,
but it is well warranted. They both played outstanding games for the Warriors.
Also, I thought Rob Kelley did a good job for the Warriors on face offs.

In other scores, again from "The Boston Herald"

Babson(Ma) 4 Salem(Ma) State 3
Boston College 7 Northeastern 4
Fitchburg(Ma) State 12 Curry(Me.) College 2
Roger Williams 8 Bentley(Ma) 7 (OT)
UConn 10 North Adams(Ma.) State 2

The Warriors next game is Saturday night when they take on the Kent State
Golden Flashes. Last year, these two teams split a weekend series. It will
be interesting to see who has the better club this year.
