Here are some excerpts from the Minnesota Daily article "Ex-Gopher hockey player skates for Winnepeg Jets" which appeared yesterday. In early September, following extensive negotiations with the Jets, Peter Hankinson signed a two-year contract with an option year and an Olympic clause. He is presently playing in Moncton, New Brunswick with one of the Jets minor league teams the Moncton Hawks. Hankinson's Olympic clause will allow him to try out and play for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1992 in France. Hankinson was surprised to hear that freshman Joe Dziedzic of Minneapolis Edison was wearing his #9 jersey this year. "I thought that thing was hanging in the rafters at Mariucci" he joked. Other Gopher notes: Former Gopher Scott Bloom of Burnsville has been released by Quebec after being released by Calgary earlier this fall. But Lance Pitlick (Philadelphia) and Tom Chorske (Montreal) continue to play with their respective NHL teams. Chorske netted a hat trick for the Canadians last week. Jon Anderson has been released by Winnipeg. Former Gopher Dave Snuggerud is featured in a photo alongside Mario Lemieux in The Hockey News 1990-91 preview issue. The WCHA officially opens it's season Saturday night in Eveleth, Minn., when Minnesota-Duluth and Michigan Tech tangle in the annual Hall of Fame game. Former Gopher coach (and 1980 Olympic coach) Herb Brooks will be inducted into the Hall of Fame before the game. That's all there is for now. Carol White Univ of Minn Go Gophers!!!
