With the conference post-season
tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season
Tournament contests. For Contest #1, in which the later rounds were
weighted
more than the earlier ones, there was a tie between Andy Weise and Tony
Buffa
with 190 points each. The tiebreaker is most individual conference
contests
won, and as Andy won two of them and Tony won one, this year’s overall
winner
is...
Andy Weise
Congratulations, Andy! And congratulations to Tony as well for
putting up a
good fight.
Oddly enough, even with the upsets in this year’s tournaments, picking
the
higher seed each time would have wound up with a contest-winning 191
points.
As for the individual conference winners...
William Sangrey and Sean Keller tied for the top spot in the ECAC with 38
points each. William won the crown on the first tiebreaker, as his
predicted
championship game score was two points closer to the result than Sean’s
was.
I managed to take Hockey East with 50 points.
The CCHA also went to me with 47 points.
Tony Buffa won the NCHC race with 40 points.
Andy Weise’s 47 points were good for the top spot in Atlantic
Hockey.
The Big Ten saw a four-way tie among Andy Weise, Jim Dixon, Mark Lewin,
and
Steve Roth, who each had 31 points. The championship-score
tiebreaker went to
Andy.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the
winners, and
thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between
your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if
you picked
the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 3-1) to be 5-1, you
would
get two points; if you picked 5-2, you would get three points; and if
you
picked 6-3, you would get five points. Obviously, the lower the
point score
the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total
of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again,
the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 3-1.
For the Big Ten, the championship game score was 5-4.
Also included below are the "Higher Seed" picks showing what
would have
happened if the higher seed for each game had been picked to
win.
