For individual and/or small business patrons who might seek tax resources from your library, here are several that were shared by the Maine Department of Labor in their Friday blast:

 

  1. Maine FastFile service provides three options to file your Maine State and/or Federal taxes
  2. CA$H Maine – if you qualify, this company will help do your taxes for free!
  3. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low to moderate income.
  4. Free File, all taxpayers who made $62,000 or less can visit MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "sg05url.maine.gov" claiming to be www.IRS.gov/freefile to prepare and e-file their federal tax returns at no cost.
  5. IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify
  6. How to contact the IRS
    1. For Individuals: Toll-Free, 1-800-829-1040. Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (your local time).
    2. For Businesses: Toll-Free, 1-800-829-4933. Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (your local time).
    3. For Exempt Organizations, Retirement Plan Administrators, and Government Entities: 1-877-829-5500. Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central Time
    4. Where’s my tax refund? Please wait 4 weeks after filing, then call 1-800-829-4477 or look your refund up online.
  7. SCORE Small Business Taxes - What Every Owner Should Know webinar 2/6/24 12 – 1 pm EST
