Colleagues,

We, at the Maine State Library, are pleased to be sending out the first calendar of continuing education events for 2024 from the beautiful state of Maine! You can find it here https://maine-msl.libguides.com/CECAL.

As many of you know, the Maine State Library will be managing the calendar going forward. We’ve been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the new home for this well-loved resource and hope that you are able to find the resources you count on for your CE programming. You can receive the monthly calendar of events directly by subscribing and you can still submit an event via the webpage. Do not hesitate to reach out with questions and comments at [log in to unmask].

I’d also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of my team here and the wonderful staff at the Wyoming State Library who helped make the transition as seamless as possible. Librarians are well known for sharing (and problem solving!) and it was reaffirming to see the collaboration unfold so naturally.

Here’s to a New Year full of curiosity and new discoveries for you and your libraries!

A Step-By-Step Guide to Hybrid Programming (ALA)

Using two examples from the Boston Public Library’s recent hybrid programming, the presenters will walk through the logistical details to consider when planning hybrid programs. The many decisions to make about staff roles and responsibilities, registration, managing the online and in-person audience engagement, and leveraging AV and technology, will be outlined and discussed.

Graphic Novels and Manga For Teens and Tweens (Infopeople)

Hey, library staff! Comics! Everyone is looking for them at your library, but they all want something different. What do you say to the parent whose child won’t let go of Dog Man? How high is your stack of Raina Telgemeier read-alikes? Where is your manga section, and how do you know which series to add to your collection?

Laying Out the Welcome Mat: Asset Mapping to Better Serve the Immigrant Community (WebJunction)

With immigration in the news, many library practitioners are wondering how they can support immigrant populations as they transition into their communities. This webinar covers how to use asset mapping—a way to discover, gather, and share community resources—to grow strong relationships and align with existing community partners and resources. Asset mapping will help you understand and highlight your community’s resources, strengthening your library as an invaluable hub for the immigrants in your area.
