*What is happening?*
On the morning of the 4th the CAS component of the Single Sign On (SSO)
stack will be updated to use the new LDAP servers which were promoted to
production in May.
Additionally, maintenance will be performed on the Single Sign On system to
apply software updates.

*How long will it take?*
The downtime is expected to be 30 minutes or less.

*Why is this work necessary?*

   - The new LDAP servers use newer software and more stringent encryption
standards, and they also replace servers which reach end of life soon.
   - New core software updates have become available. Getting software
updates applied to systems in a timely manner protects all members of the
   UMS community.
   - Occasional restarts of some services promote stability and a better
   user experience.

*What happens if the work is not successful?*
If the server does not resume normal SSO processes on its own within a
reasonable period of time then staff will troubleshoot it.
