I had forgotten the FF in 2026 is in LV. just a 45 minute flight from me!!  Let’s call it the west coast. I hope to be there. RPI too. I think the former is much more likely. LOL

Enjoy the bracket and tourney.

I had advocated for a Vancouver Frozen Four. I even tried to convince UAF to sponsor it. Now a Seattle FF is more likely

Sunday late to the party folks, but happy seeding day. I gather the ECAC totally messed things up. Good for Colgate!

As for the NCAA, any of you remember the great time (!) in 1999 in Anaheim? Since I live 200 miles north it was easy to attend (well if navigating the LA Freeways is easy!) and I recall the midwest folks loved the beach time even though it was in the 60s and we were freezing!

I doubt the FF will return west of the rockies in the near future and I realize it is travel hassle, but how about San Jose/Bay Area?

OK, just kidding. Now on to the brackets.

Cheers,

The lax thing is on a vacation weekend and seen as a big party. Hockey is in mostly cold weather sites and sometimes not even within range of the hot beds of hockey.

On the combined NCAA championship idea:

Men's lacrosse does something similar. They play on Memorial Day weekend, so the Division I semifinals are on Saturday, the Division II and III finals are on Sunday and the Division I final is on Monday. I haven't been, so I don't know what attendance is like on the middle day. But it is set up as a festival of lacrosse.

I think there was something similar done in basketball a few years ago as a one-off. So in hockey, you could consider something with either the D-I women, D-III men, or both.

The main concern with doing that in hockey would be whether the ice would hold up after five games in three days. On the spectator side, you would want to ensure that there are tickets available for the fans of the teams in those championship games.

Good idea, Bob.  But the logistics of dealing with all of that in one arena sounds daunting to me.

Re: "- why doesn't the women's program get more attention?"

Men's Division I is about to hold a national championship tournament in that traditional hockey hotbed, Florida.  In order to attend that tournament, a three-game affair stretched over three days, many fans will have to fly long distances on Wednesday, check into a hotel for four nights, attend  games on Thursday afternoon/evening and Saturday evening, and find other things to do on half of Thursday, all of Friday, and most of Saturday, ... which is ok.

But couldn't that exercise be more productive and also generate interest in women's hockey if the NCAA would combine, at a minimum, the men's and women's Division I tournaments into a single Thursday-Saturday/Sunday activity?  In fact, why not add all divisions to the group?  Make it a college hockey extravaganza loaded with games throughout the period.  Surely the arena can handle the activity if skillfully scheduled over whatever period makes sense.  Fans can select the events that primarily interest them and have a chance for exposure to other divisions and genders.  Fans can choose to fill their time with hockey or divide it between their principal hockey interests and tourist activities, however it suits them.

Would there be any disadvantages?  Is the head of the NCAA reading this?  And if it works, how much should be paid to the person who suggested it?

Interesting that Merrimack is in the HE final and should get a bid, win or (fingers crossed) lose. Fun fact: Fairleigh Dickinson got Merrimack’s bid to that other NCAA tournament. I’d say FDU showed they belonged.

Old I am, but not yet dead.  I know Div III won't interest hardly anyone, bu t#6 ranked  UWSP and #15 ranked  Agsberg played to 4 overtimes before Point won 2-1.  I think that was a record for tournament play.  Next up for the Pointers is #3 ranked Adrian in the quarterfinals.  Could be another National title for perennial powerhouse Point.  What can I say?  They may not be the big boys, but they're mine (I taught there for 38 years) and I think they are worthy of press.

Next - why doesn't the women's program get more attention?  This year's final is surprising Wisconsin v. #1 seed Ohio State after the badgers upset Minnesota.

As to the Div I tournament, I like Minnesota and Denver this year (who wouldn't?), but don't overlook St. Cloud State - my dark horse.  Quinnipiac ought to be a favorite, too, but I don't think they will make to the FF.  That loss to Colgate may be a fluke, but then again......
