The passing of Jerry Ellis deeply saddened me especially after dealing with the loss of my husband Jerry Herlihy. Jerry and Jerry worked together for many years before Herlihy turned the program over to Ellis and Jerry Ellis did an excellent job carrying on the legacy of the TRIO program. I met Jerry Ellis while a student in college and he helped me immensely in my pursuit of my degree especially with my imposter syndrome. He for one really understood what that was really about. His calm, his patience, his ability to listen, his ability to lead will all be sorely missed in the TRIO world and we can not thank him enough for all of the lives he touched both professionally,  personally and as colleagues. If we could think of something to do in his honor to commemorate  his work and legacy we should probably do something.
In sadness of the loss of another great TRIO leader

Hi all,

As some of you may have heard, Jerry Ellis recently passed away. Jerry was a long-time director of the Onward program here at the University of Maine, as well as the first president of the Maine Educational Opportunity Association. Jerry was also a past-president of the New England Educational Opportunity Association, and a past director of the NEOA Leadership Institute (before it was renamed Arnold Mitchem Leadership Institute). I have posted a link to Jerry's obituary on the MEEOA website on the Press Room page (under Advocacy > Press Room). For your convenience, here is the direct link:

I did not know Jerry as well as some other people in our TRIO community, but I always enjoyed chatting with him at state and regional conferences. He was kind and insightful and cared a great deal for the students and his work. We miss him greatly.
