Here are the rules for the annual NC$$ contest. The entry form will be very similar to previous years. Once again, there will be 15 contests but only a single contest entry form. Each entry will require a score to be entered for each game. Do not enter total goals as that number will be calculated from the individual scores you enter. Here are the contests: As in past years, there will be three contests that encompass the entire tournament (which I will refer to as the national tournament). Contest 1 is based on picking the winner of each game. Contest 2 is based on picking the winner of each game as well as the goal differential (i.e. the difference between the winner and the loser’s score). Contest 3 is based on picking the winner of each game as well as the score of each game. The 1st tiebreaker will be the total number of OT periods in the tournament and the 2nd tiebreaker will be the total goals scored. The rest of the contests are very similar to the one above except that there will be three contests for EACH regional. There will be the same 3 contests for each regional as with the national tournament. However, the regional contests will be scored in a slightly different way than the National tournament. The difference is noted below where the scoring is explained. As previously mentioned, each entry will require that you choose a winner of each game and a predicted score of that game. The games will be designated as follows: NE (Northeast) games 1 and 2 and NE final, W (West) games 1 and 2 and W final, E (East) games 1 and 2 and E final, MW (Midwest) games 1 and 2 and MW final, (national) semifinal 1, semifinal 2 and finals. The scoring of the contests is as follows: Contest 1 (pick the winners): *One *point will be awarded for picking each winner of Northeast games one and two, West games one and two, East games one and two and Midwest games one and two. *Two* points will be awarded for picking each winner of the four regional finals, the two national semifinals and the finals. In case of a tie for the national tournament contest, the first tiebreaker will be the total number of overtime periods played. If a game goes into a second overtime period, that counts as 2 OT periods. If that tiebreaker fails to produce a winner, the second tiebreaker will be the total number of goals scored in the tournament. If the second tiebreaker doesn’t produce a winner, the contest will be declared a tie. For the regional contests, the number of overtime periods will not be used. The one and only tiebreaker will be total goals. Contest 2 (pick the winners and goal differential): *Four* points will be awarded for picking each winner of Northeast games one and two, West games one and two, East games one and two and Midwest games one and two. *Six* points will be awarded for picking each winner of the four regional finals. *Eight* points will be awarded for picking each winner of the 2 national semifinals and the finals. In addition, points will be awarded for choosing the goal differential for those games where you have correctly picked the winning team. *Three* points will be added for picking the correct goal differential, *two* points will awarded if your goal differential is off by one and *one* point will be awarded if your goal differential is off by two. Anything more will get zero points. The two tiebreakers for the national contest will be number of overtime periods and the total number of goals scored in the tournament and for the regional contests will be total goals only. See tiebreaker rules for contest 1 for details. Contest 3 (pick the winners and the scores) *Four* points will be awarded for picking each winner of Northeast games one and two, West games one and two, East games one and two and Midwest games one and two. *Six* points will be awarded for picking the winner of each of the 4 regional finals. *Eight* points will be awarded for picking the winner of each of the 2 national semifinals and the finals. In addition, points will be awarded for picking the winner’s and the loser’s score in each game. These points will be awarded only if you correctly pick the winning team. If you correctly predict the winner’s score, *three* points will be awarded. If your prediction of the winner’s score is off by one, *two* points will be awarded. If your prediction of the winner’s score is off by two, *one* point will be awarded. If you correctly predict the loser’s score, *three *points will be awarded. If your prediction of the loser’s score is off by one, *two* points will be awarded. If your prediction of the loser’s score is off by two, *one* point will be awarded. The two tiebreakers for the national contest will be number of overtime periods and the total number of goals scored in the tournament and for the regional contests will be total goals only.
