To back up David's point, I used a number of different Toyota dealers to service my old Toyota Yaris over the years.I'm sure somebody may correct me if I'm wrong but you don't have to buy from a dealer just to use services for your car at that dealership. My older Toyota's were used from both Lee Auto and Prime Toyota but were serviced at Berlin City Toyota. Also I bought my 2019 Bolt from CarMax but had it serviced at Pape Chevy. Also, if you want a good gas sipper that is probably cheap I don't think there is anything better than a used Prius (non plug-in) probably nothing more than 5-7 years old. Though right now used car prices are pretty bad, as inventory is extremely low.Thank you,David M. RosenWeb Design ManagerUS:IT Web TechnologiesUniversity of Southern Maine
Gorham CampusT: (207) 228-8323Email: [log in to unmask]Thanks everyone, for your responses.I am also considering private party sales which would not give me access to a dealer...sounds like that might present problems.Good information to consider when thinking ahead to who would work on my car.I am looking at "regular" cars that are good on gas as well. Second hand, under $9,000.If I don't join your ranks this time around, I will in the future!I also have a Rav4 Prime and I'm planning on using the dealer (I've had it for one month today, so it hasn't needed anything yet!)Adinah if you want to chat more about hybrid vs. plug-in hybrid I'm happy to talk anytime.I would agree that I plan to take my RAV4 Prime (plug-in hybrid) to the dealer for service.Hi Adinah, I have a plug-in Toyota and I plan to bring it directly to the dealership because I don't want to compromise the warranty, and because my normal mechanic cannot work on it due to the battery and how advanced the computer technology is. Like David said, I think the dealership is going to be the best place most of the time. I hope that some of the smaller mechanics can find a way to get into the business of working on these; hopefully that will happen over time. I just don't personally know of any that are doing it now.Good luck! Are you specifically looking for a "Plug-In Hybrid"?I believe there are a few people that are in this group that own Toyota PHEVs, a Prius Prime, and a Rav4 Prime.I take my Bolt directly to the Chevy Dealership (Pape in South Portland) as they have the most skilled and knowledgeable mechanics for my car.For a PHEV or BEV, I think your best bet is going to be the dealership. Unfortunately, that's probably the more expensive option as well. When I owned a Prius (non plug-in) and a Corolla, I had a good experience at Berlin City Toyota.Thank you,David M. Gorham CampusT: (207) 228-8323Email: [log in to unmask]Hello All,I am car shopping and looking at hybrids. I wonder if anyone has a reference for a good: honest, skilled and ideally not too expensive, mechanic who works on hybrids, either Toyota or Honda, in the South Portland/Portland area. Thanks!
