*What is happening?* Starting at 6AM Sunday September 26th at 6AM we will apply security updates to NameO and NameP and reboot them and then stop the LDAP servers to update an access list. We will do these one at a time and verify that things are working as expected before doing the other one. We anticipate each machine being down for less than 5 minutes and the LDAP server on each being down during the access list change for less than 5 minutes. These machines provide DHCP, DNS and LDAP services. Most services should be unaffected since we have redundant servers, however, there may be brief interruptions in the ability to log in to some services. *How long will it take?* We expect this work to take about 10 to 15 minutes per server. There will be a delay between the two as we verify that all is well. As mentioned above, the actual outage of service should be shorter. *Why is this work necessary?* For security and support reasons we need to keep our systems running on recent well supported operating systems and standards. We are removing access to an obsolete LDAP attribute. What happens if the work is not successful? We will back out to snapshots of these machines taken prior to application of the changes.
