Hello Colleagues!

Central Maine Community College TRIO SSS will be holding summer programming again this year! The hope is that these programs will be live on ground, but we are prepared to offer them virtually if necessary. Students who are TRIO eligible are welcome to register and must submit a CMCC TRIO application prior to attendance. The first two programs save students both time and money if they can successfully test into higher level courses. So far, TRIO has had a 100% pass rate!

Write Bright June 28th-July 2nd

Taught by Katherine Woodbury and TRIO. This program will be open to students who are currently placed into ENG 090 for the Fall semester. Students will have the ability to complete the summer program and test into college level English via the ACCUPLACER.

Algebra Aptitude Monday Wednesday and Fridays July 12th-23rd

Taught by Chris Thoma and TRIO. This program will be open to students who are currently placed into MAT 050 for Fall semester. Students will have the ability to complete the summer program and test into college level math via the ACCUPLACER. TRIO advisors will consult with students to determine which math course they should enter based on their academic program and future goals, should they pass the developmental level.

Students who participate in Algebra Aptitude or Write Bright will be eligible to get credit for LER 100. LER 100 is an entry level course that all students must take in order to graduate. It is a 1 credit course but will be FREE to students who complete their TRIO summer program. Students will be able to get a Prior Learning Assessment credit with TRIO’s guidance to count as an equivalent to the CM course.

STEM Day July 28th

Facilitated by TRIO and including a list of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) seminars and activities for incoming STEM program students. CMCC has over 20 STEM programs at its institution. Speakers will come from a variety of backgrounds and students will be able to pick their own schedule. Programming will be designed to empower and motivate students entering into STEM fields.

Interested students should send an email to Amanda York ([log in to unmask]).

Thank you,

Amanda
