Hello Maine GeoLibrary Data Catalog Consumers,

Announcement:

The Maine Office of GIS has received and verified reports of shapefile download errors occurring with the MEGIS Data Catalog (https://www.maine.gov/megis/catalog/index.shtml) and Beta Data Catalog (https://www.maine.gov/geolib/newcatalog.html). The Maine Office of GIS has filed a ticket with Esri to fix this issue, but there is currently no estimated time of repair.

Shapefile downloads from the Maine GeoLibrary Data Catalog (https://geolibrary-maine.opendata.arcgis.com/) are successful, but the unzipped file names are presenting as alphanumeric strings that do not match the name of the source folders or data layers on the Data Catalog. The shapefiles do open successfully in ArcMap with the correct projection, and the shapefiles can be renamed in ArcMap. This behavior has been reported for downloads from other state open data catalogs as well.

The Maine Office of GIS recommends that users refer to the Maine GeoLibrary Data Catalog (https://geolibrary-maine.opendata.arcgis.com/) for data download needs at this time. The Maine GeoLibrary Data Catalog also includes service endpoints for GIS web services, which are not affected by the shapefile download errors. Feature services can be used if there is a need to download and save a local copy of data.

Thank you for your support of the Maine GeoLibrary and its projects.

Sincerely,

Emily Pettit
GIS Coordinator
Maine Office of GIS
