2020 County Teachers of the Year

We all know a great teacher (or 100 great teachers)!

A teacher who:

*   instills in students a desire to learn and achieve;

*   understands the individual needs of students, encourages        their talents and fosters their self-esteem;

*   fosters cooperative relationships with colleagues and the          community;

*   is a leader in the profession.

Here is your chance to honor and recognize the great work done by teachers in classrooms across our great State of Maine.

It all starts with YOUR nomination!

To be considered, the teacher must:

  • Hold the appropriate professional certification for your position
  • Be employed by a Maine public school, including a public charter school, career and technical center, or a publicly supported secondary school (a private school that enrolls 60 percent or more publicly funded students, sometimes referred to as "town academies");
  • Be actively teaching students at least 50% of full-time at the time of nomination and during the year of recognition;
    • Teacher" means a person who provides classroom instruction to students in a general education, special education or career and technical education program. It does not include adult education instructors or persons defined as "educational specialists" in State Board of Education Rule Chapter 115, section 2.20.
  • Have been teaching for a minimum of five years - three of which are in Maine
  • Remain teaching in the County for which you are selected during year of recognition

Testimonials from some of the current County Teachers of the Year to the 2020 nominees:

"If I could do it again, I would absolutely do it again.  Fear not the crown and sash; you won't get one. Instead, know that you are a representative and voice of the amazing work of teachers across the state."

"Humbled and honored were the first two words that came to mind when I first received notification of my CTOY nomination. I chose to answer "yes" to my nomination because taking advantage of every opportunity to grow as a person, teacher, and leader invigorates what I do in the classroom and in my school. Answering "yes" has afforded more opportunities for professional development and collaboration with teachers outside my school unit, not only for me, but for other teachers in my district. It has been the grandest of adventures! Choose yes...the adventure awaits you, too!"

"As a 2019 County Teacher of the Year and Semi-Finalist of the 2020 Maine Teacher of the Year process, I encourage you to "opt in" to this amazing journey. The process encourages opportunities to lead and learn, it builds connections with a network of extraordinary teachers in Maine who elevate our profession, and allows for meaningful reflection on your teaching craft."

"This is a life-changing process of self-reflection, relationship building, and professional development. As you take all factors into consideration, please remember that you are a teacher, and because of you, someone smiled today, someone made a connection, someone became more confident, and someone felt loved so I want to say thank you."

It starts with YOUR nomination!

Thank you!
