With the conference post-season
tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournament contests. For Contest #2, in which all
rounds are
scored the same, the overall winner is...
Nathan Hampton
whose total of 66 points was two better than the runner-up, the
CHODR
picks. Congratulations to Nathan!
As for the individual conference winners...
The ECAC saw a three-way tie among CHODR, Nathan Hampton, and Sean
Keller,
with 16 points each. CHODR's perfect prediction of the championship
game
score earned first place.
Andy Weise took the top spot in Hockey East with 8 points.
The WCHA also ended up in a three-way tie among CHODR, Tony Buffa,
and
Nathan Hampton, who each had 14 points. Once again, CHODR picked
the
championship game score right ont the nose and took the crown.
Charlie Shub's 14 points were good for first place in the NCHC.
There was a tie among Jim Dixon, Andy Weise, and Tony Buffa for the
top
spot in Atlantic Hockey. Jim predicted the championship game score
per-
fectly and took the honors.
In the Big Ten, there was a four-way tie for first among CHODR,
Nathan
Hampton, Jim Dixon, and myself, each with 8 points. CHODR and
Nathan
remained tied after the first tiebreaker, but CHODR eked out the win
with
the second tiebreaker, as its predicted total of goals scored in the
tour-
nament was one point closer than Nathan's.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the
winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between
your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if
you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 3-2) to be
5-2,
you would get two points; if you picked 4-0, you would get three
points;
and if you picked 6-1, you would get four points. Obviously, the
lower the
point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total
of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again,
the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 3-2.
For the WCHA, the championship game score was 3-2.
For Atlantic Hockey, the championship game score was 3-2.
For the Big Ten, the championship game score was 3-2, and the total
number
of goals scored in the tournament was 49.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the
"Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for
each
game had been picked to win.
