The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Remediation & Waste Management, is seeking to fill a Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator vacancy in Portland.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:  The position provides GIS expertise and hydrogeologic assistance to all Bureau programs. By integrating spatial and hydrogeological data, the position produces maps, cross-sections, tables, and charts that can be used to assess conditions and threats to receptors.  The position compiles spatial data by using Global Positioning System (GPS) techniques and GIS desktop editing.  The position supports and assists Response and Technical Services staff in the field assessment, clean-up, and monitoring of petroleum spills.  This includes collecting groundwater, soil, and indoor air samples, and analyzing the results.  In addition, the position assists with data entry in the Department’s Environmental Geographic and Analysis Database (EGAD).  The position collaborates with staff throughout the Department to assist with other project work as needed.  For more information, please contact Mark Woodruff at (207) 822-6353.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must have a six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience directly related to the operation, development, and/or maintenance of GIS systems.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Expertise in desktop and online GIS applications.
  • Expertise with GPS equipment and applications.
  • Familiarity with geospatial analysis and Python scripting.
  • Education and experience in Geological Sciences.
  • Knowledge of investigation and remediation methodologies at contaminated sites.
  • Experience with field screening equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage priorities to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, reach logical conclusions, and make sound, cost-effective decisions.
