I hope you all have had a great holiday season so far and that your New Year is a notch above 2016!

 

The GeoLibrary Board is initiating an effort to secure funding for geospatial data acquisition beneficial to all GIS users in the state! This is a brave effort in that they have asked Senator Tom Saviello, Chairman of Environment and Natural Resources Committee (one of two committees the GeoLibrary Board reports to) to sponsor a bond request for six million dollars. The draft bond language is attached (2017 Final.pdf) If the funding is approved it would be used to pursue a OneMAP for ME program outlined in the information sheet attached (OneMAP.Final.pdf).

 

Having access to high resolution and more accurate data is a benefit to all of us not just state agencies. It improves the quality of decision making across all sectors of GIS users from developers to municipal officials to non-profits and environmental interests.

 

Please call your Senators and Representatives and ask them to sign on as cosponsors of the this bond request today! Senator Saviello has agreed to sponsor but it will be an uphill battle. Please contact them TODAY!
