We're in the midst of National Arts in Education Week and hope you are celebrating by encouraging a young visual or performing artist and thanking all our dedicated arts teachers!

Congratulations to all those whose efforts launched National Arts in Ed Week last weekend at the Orono Arts Cafe, the Pie in the Sky Race, and the Back-to-School Contradance!

If you want another chance to celebrate the success of Orono's students in the arts, consider an evening at the coast, listening to jazz performed by Crosswind, an innovative combo that features former OHS student Will St. Peter, now a professional jazz guitarist and school music teacher.  The concert will take place on Friday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m., a program of Surry Arts at the Barn, 8 Cross Road in Surry.  Suggested donation is $15 and includes complimentary refreshments during intermission.  Performing as members of Crosswind are Kevin Campbell on keyboards, vocals, and guitar; Will St. Peter on guitar; Brad O'Brien on bass; and Andrew Clifford on percussion.  The group has gained audience throughout the Bangor, Midcoast, and Downeast regions, thanks to their engaging original melodies and rhythms inspired by American jazz forms and world music traditions.  This concert, presented in the Surry Arts Barn's unique and intimate performance space, will expand the horizons of musicians and music lovers young and old!

Watch this space:  The OHS Speech and Debate Team returned with honors this summer from national competition in Ft. Lauderdale.  They are now gearing up for this year's events, with every intention of continuing OHS's great winning tradition.  Stay tuned for more about these remarkable performers!  More to come about music, drama, and visual arts in the weeks ahead, too!
